I have met people with no previous experience in sports at all, to players who start out with lots of experience in a sport like squash, tennis, table tennis or badminton. You do not need to have any previous sporting background to enjoy playing pickleball. It is inclusive, fun, and you can play in a non competitive environment. Want to be competitive eventually, we can help you as well.
WARNING: Before you try pickleball DO NOT BUY A PADDLE. We have extra paddles. You would not buy a $1000 set of golf clubs before trying the game to see if you liked it. Once you decide you like it, ask us for advice on a new paddle. You can also come back to this website and pick a paddle, if you choose a paddle over $100 before tax, you will get free shipping anywhere in Canada. We are an official Onix distributor, and we choose to offer paddles, balls and portable nets at the absolute lowest legally permitted prices.
If you have bad knees, a bad shoulder, whatever, you can still most likely play pickleball. 95% of people play doubles, so not a lot of ground to cover. Pickleball is played on a badminton sized court. Or if you prefer, you can take one tennis court and make 4 pickleball courts out of it! That is why you are now seeing pickleball growing so fast. Cities and towns are converting some of their tennis courts to pickleball courts so they get used. Think of a tennis court with 2 people playing for 2 hours. Think of 16-20 people playing pickleball in the same exact amount of space!
I teach new players all the time, and after a lesson that lasts 90 minutes, they have a good understanding of the rules and have played a few games. We get new players playing quickly. I do not have new players standing around while I talk for 20 minutes. We have a lot of fun, I love the game and make sure everyone understands and is enjoying themselves.
